Project Manager Intern

ABOUT NEW YORK CITY CYBER COMMAND

New York City Cyber Command (NYC3) is committed to protecting City systems that provide vital services to New Yorkers from cyber threats, and helping residents become safer in their digital lives. 

As the organization defending the largest municipality in the country, NYC3 is charged with directing citywide incident response, setting citywide cybersecurity policies and standards and working with city agencies to strengthen their cyber defenses.


JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a motivated and tech-savvy Project Management Intern to support the Security Sciences Portfolio Management Team. At the direction of a Program Manager, you will manage Security Sciences’ projects which include software engineering, network engineering, cybersecurity, and Sysops initiatives. Additionally, you will coordinate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are synchronized and properly resourced.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Lead daily project meetings in accordance with Security Sciences’ established policies
- Assist with the development of detailed project plans to monitor and track project progress
- Track Proofs-of-Concept (PoC) trials for new technology solutions as part of ongoing projects or as independent projects
- Support frequent risk assessments and cost-benefit analyses to identify and resolve issues that may disrupt projects 
- Provide weekly project reports and metrics to key stakeholders 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
All candidates must be enrolled in a degree bearing program at an accredited institution.


PREFERRED SKILLS
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or Project Management with coursework in Computer Science and/or Cybersecurity 
- Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information System Management, Business Administration (or significant coursework in these areas) 
- Experience completing projects according to outlined scope and timeline 
- Strong written and oral communications skills 
- Basic knowledge of concepts in software and data engineer or; 
- Basic knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols or;
- Basic knowledge of core cybersecurity technologies 
- Enthusiasm to learn through a combination of structured, on-the-job, and self-directed training 


*SPECIAL NOTE
Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, this opportunity will be remote and unpaid.

Summer Internships are full time internships for students in degree bearing programs at an accredited institution. This classification of interns must show either proof of their university giving academic credit, or funding from their university or an authorized 3rd party.

The length of the internship cannot exceed 13 weeks and must take place between the start of June and the end of August. Students are required to work a minimum of 17 hours per week. 
 
NYC3 will provide equipment for this internship period. The students will be required to have their own internet connectivity.
