Engineering Intern

Business Segment Overview – Thermal Management
People in our Thermal Management segment are in the prevention business.  We know that catastrophic events—such as frozen pipes, liquid leaks, and train derailments—can alter lives and damage the success of companies involved.

Behind the scenes:  we invented self-regulating heating cables, with more than a billion feet installed worldwide. 

Key job responsibilities
The Sustaining Engineer Group ensures the continued performance of our thermal products—including cables, components, and electronics.  Through collaboration with Integrated Supply Chain, Thermal Technology, and Product Management, the Sustaining Engineering Intern will verify product performance, help document product standards.  You will be an integral member of a global team. 

  • 25% - Conduct testing of thermal products in accordance with standard methods using a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and material test methods and instruments.
  • Generate summary reports on data collected, including graphical and statistical analysis, for work related to assignments. 
  • 50% - Create and update SolidWorks models and drawings under guidance of senior engineer. 
  • 25% - Aggregate product performance data into a defined database. 
  • Follow nVent standard work and procedures. 
  • Be knowledgeable of and compliant with local safety procedures and policies. 

Qualifications and Experience
  • Actively pursuing bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline. 
  • Skilled with SolidWorks modeling and drafting. 
  • Hands-on laboratory or R&D experience a plus.
  • Experience with electrical testing a plus. 
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office suite of applications. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Collaborate well with local and remote team members.
