Associate Business Analyst Summer Internship (2021)

THE OPPORTUNITY
 
Associate analysts serve at the intersection of Business and Technology. As an analyst, you will work on either the Product, Data, Business Operations or Enterprise Resource Planning team. In this role, you will be working on critical projects to support our businesses by translating requirements, establishing problem statements, and transforming relevant data to conduct analysis.
The ideal candidate for this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage project scope and deadlines, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality in all projects. RESPONSIBLITIES
Preferred (but not required) Skills and Knowledge
Practical knowledge of distribution or Supply Chain Knowledge and experience in Oracle or Manhattan software
 
Enterprise Resource Planning: This position is responsible for all processes relating to their assigned area of expertise in one or more of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) modules or functionalities. They will be responsible for their project work-stream area and represent the needs of all lines of business across North America in business process design and solution implementation. As an Associate ERP Analyst you will demonstrate and remain current on industry knowledge and expertise in a variety of Enterprise Resource Planning tools, Warehouse Management tools, Oracle Cloud and best practices for ERP implementations, work with the business to document business requirements, desired outcomes, and business process flows, analyze, propose, reengineer, and document improved and consistent “to be” business processes across all lines of businesses in collaboration with key stakeholders that align with the ERP implementation desired outcomes including increased efficiency, enhanced productivity and reduced costs, and develop data requirements associated with the ERP project and ensure that there is data harmonization and consistency as part of the ERP design and implementation.
 
Preferred (but not required) Skills and Knowledge
Excellent analytical, statistics and problem solving capabilities, with a good understanding of basic Economics and Finance concepts (time value of money, NPV, financial statements) Academic or Internship Experience relating to Operations/Supply Chain
 
Business Operations: As part of the Operations 2020 teamthis position sits at the intersection of Operations, Business Analytics, Strategy and Finance. As an Associate Business Operations Analyst you will play a pivotal role as a driver for achieving operational efficiencies and customer improvements, and for modernizing Scholastic’s entire supply chain. Your responsibilities range from establishing problem statement, identifying and transforming relevant data to conducting analysis and building business case/implementation plans. This role also involves working with stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Analytics, Product and Engineering to contribute to and drive progress on multiple operations projects, and employing effective project management techniques to track, compile and analyze performance data during the fiscal year for the benefit/review of the team.
 
Preferred (but not required) Skills and Knowledge
Strong SQL skills for purposes of data extraction, transformation, cleaning and analysis Strong Excel, SAS, R or Python skills in analysis, statistics and charting Familiarity with BI and data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Looker Familiarity with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics (a.k.a. Omniture) Experience working successfully with tech teams following an Agile methodology

Data Analytics: As part of the Analytics and Data Engineering teams, the Associate Data Analyst will be responsible for assessing needs and conducting impact analysis on business data requests, and defining ways to link data, processes, and systems throughout the organization to achieve optimal efficiency and align information technology with business initiatives. The role serves a range of functions across Scholastic’s businesses, covering financial analysis, customer analytics, data engineering, web analytics, and analysis of offline activities. In this role you will also liaise with business stakeholders to understand, validate and document data requirements, interface with other developers, product owners and business analysts to understand data needs, utilize SQL and other data analysis and profiling tools to query, understand, and manipulate complex data, and develop and maintain Scholastic's data infrastructure to drive efficient and reliable processes.
 
Preferred (but not required) Skills and Knowledge
Experience in structured SDLC methodology, such as Agile Understanding of how back-end and web-based systems interface with each other Experience with project tracking tools such as Jira, Rally, etc. Experience with one of the following technical areas:
  • Web: Web analytics tools (ie, Adobe Analytics, Coremetrics, Google Analytics, etc.) and Familiarity with SEO and UX best practices
  • Systems Integration: Experience working with third party vendors with an understanding of systems integration
Teams
 
Product: The product team works to translate requirements into user stories for technical development. As an analyst on the team, you will help ensure that the needs of the business and customers are being met by testing new development features and assessing the impact of those features. Analysts on the product team proactively seek to understand each division’s business objectives and how they fit into the overall business and technical strategy. They also serve as a contributing member of agile scrum teams, helping to follow development methodologies and build exciting new software. 
 
Qualifications
 
  • Graduation date in 2020 or 2021
  • Undergraduate/Graduate degree in business, computer science, math, engineering, or other quantitative disciplines
  • Excellent analytical, logical reasoning and problem solving capabilities
  • An ability to present and discuss technical, functional and management information in a clear and compelling manner that promotes consensus.
  • Passion for Data Driven decision making (“In Numbers We Trust” mindset)
  • Strong proficiency in spreadsheet analysis and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with technology and business SMEs to document as-is and to-be processes and data requirements
