Supply Chain Intern

Primary Responsibilities will be to gain an understanding of the overall supply chain operations and to work with assigned departments to promote understanding of Peet’s requirements (Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), contracts, etc.). You will be assigned projects within the departments of Manufacturing and Distribution to drive cost savings, develop economic models and drive operations strategy and execution. Through this process you will: mitigate risk through proactive analysis of operational processes and systems; collaborate interdepartmentally as new projects are developed to identify operational opportunity and competency requirements; drive continuous improvement through personal influence and the application of defined processes and techniques. Skills you will acquire and develop include: confidence in your ability to influence people; manage potentially contentious situations to a positive result; act as a liaison to all areas of the organization while you drive execution within the supply base.

Candidates will be currently enrolled in a BS program with a major in supply chain, industrial engineering or a degree related to Supply Chain or Operations. Additionally, minimum degree progress of at least second semester sophomore status with 48 completed credits. Success in this role requires a dependable, self-motivated, engaged learner who is available to work between 40+ hours per week in Summer 2021 at the Peet's Roasting Plant in Alameda.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Assist Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to document processes, develop flowcharts, and draft SOPs from conducting staff interviews and reviewing industry best practices
  • Prepare and present Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports with relevant commentary to Leadership to quantify operations performance (e.g., forecast accuracy, supply delivery performance, inventory levels)
  • Calculate safety stock and min-max levels, re-order points, MRP forecasted demand to reduce lead times while at the same time reducing excess inventory exposure.
  • Line Balancing process analysis: applying lean principles, identify process bottlenecks using end-to-end time-studies to quantify cycle-times and identify and recommend improvements
  • Film Waste continuous improvement: Identify the root-causes of film waste, potential solutions to mitigate
  • Ensure compliance with all required policies, procedures and legal and/or industrial standards

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional qualifications in Supply chain/Distribution and/or management desirable
  • Leadership and team building skills, including effective communication, engagement, performance review, setting clear expectations, delivering feedback and inspiring results
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; capable of teaching and generating results while enhancing the work environment
  • Knowledgeable in continuous improvement methodologies (i.e. lean, six-sigma); green or black belt certified a plus; Experience in Issue Resolution and Incident Investigation a plus
  • Working knowledge of a P&L (income statement) and ability to identify drivers of cost and improvement opportunities.
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented; able to work effectively under pressure with high-energy, and proactive style; brings well developed sense of urgency to all work. Must also be quality minded, analytical and results oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook), and warehouse management systems (D365 preferable)
  • Due to the changing operational demands and seasonal peaks of a retail business, there may be a need for you to work outside of standard operating hours and may involve occasional weekend work
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull up to 30 pounds at a time
  • Must be physically capable of sitting for long periods of time in an open and creative office environment
  • Must be physically capable of walking and standing for long periods on surfaces not necessarily friendly to the legs and back
