Statistician (Entry Level)

Core Manufacturing is responsible for providing direction and oversight for manufacture and delivery of reactor core components. CM employees assume substantial responsibility, leading the resolution of production issues while balancing cost, schedule, and technical requirements. Frequent and effective communication with the Core Vendor, Naval Reactors, and Prime interface organizations is a necessary function of the role.

QA Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direction for high-value reactor plant components during production and developing the manufacturing process and inspection methods. Duties include:
  • Provide statistical support on vendor oversight of manufacturing and inspection processes, adapt statistical methods to characterize product attributes involving various manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze and interpret data in order to support qualification of new manufacturing processes and inspection systems and resolution of data integrity issues.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and development projects, as well as provide assistance on quality control issues, data analysis/interpretation and other statistical tasks related to manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate and qualify process improvements to assure product specifications are met and maintained, along with aiming the process average towards design nominal and reducing process variability over time.
  • Development and qualification of new inspection techniques for new component designs.
  • Certification of completed components to technical specifications.
  • Create or provide technical assessment of contract specifications as needed.
  • Communicate frequently with vendors and other stakeholders.
 
Associate/Intermediate:
Conduct exploratory research, experiments, and analyses to produce knowledge and products. Develop theories for understanding, characterizing, and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for research into inventions, new products, or improved techniques for design, manufacturing, operation, or maintenance. Develop research proposals and approaches to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, methods, processes, and analytical and physical testing techniques. Maintain the technical excellence of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Required Skills *

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical skills including, but not limited to, data collection and data mining, linear/nonlinear regression, ANOVA models, parametric/non-parametric techniques, experimental design, and quality control.
  • Experience in the development of reports and presentation of results through tables and charts, and interpretation of results.
  • Ability to effectively use statistical programs, such as SAS, Minitab, R, NCSS and @Risk.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office (MS Work, MS Excel).
  • Proficient written and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work individually and with a team.

Associate:
  • Master’s degree in Statistics or biostatistics from an accredited college or university

Intermediate:
  • Master’s degree statistics or biostatistics field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year relevant experience 

Preferred Skills
  • Experience working in a collaborative data-driven environment
  • Previous manufacturing experience
  • Experience authoring customer recommendations
