ABOUT THE FLOCK
You will be a member of the bluebird bio Data Sciences team. The team works across research, clinical, and manufacturing sciences to advance our cellular therapies by leveraging expertise in bioinformatics, statistics, disease biology, and genetics. HOW YOU’LL FLY
As a Data Sciences Co-Op/Full-Time Intern bird reporting to a Data Scientist I, you will collaborate with fellow data scientists and biologists to produce data-driven insights enabling bluebird bio’s cell therapy technologies to combat cancer. This opportunity is flexible to incorporate the interests and goals of the trainee, including projects which:
• Develop visualization tools and strategies to increase the access and ease of exploration of high-dimensional datasets.
• Answer critical research questions by developing custom computational tools and/or performing exploratory analysis of new experimental next-generation sequencing datasets.
• Mine emerging public data resources to help identify and characterize novel cancer targets.
• Support the characterization of candidate cell therapies using high dimensional datasets generated by next-generation sequencing and single-cell technologies.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
You’re the bird we’re looking for if you:
· You enjoy solving problems and exploring data.
· You have experience coding in Python and/or R.
· You are currently enrolled in a degree program (BA/BS, MA/MS, PhD, or equivalent), preferably in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Genetics/Molecular Biology/Immunology or a related field.
· You have excellent organizational skills, are independently motivated, and can multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
· You have strong verbal and written skills and are excited to work in collaborative and multi-disciplinary teams (Data Sciences, IT, wet-lab research groups)
· Possess the (Ability to work a six-month assignment, full-time – ASAP through December 17)
· This position is intended to be on-site in our Seattle, WA, location, but the opportunity for remote work may exist.
