What Your Job Will Be Like
Are you passionate about working in collaboration with a hardworking interdisciplinary team of neuroscientists, computer scientists, mathematicians, and engineers? Our team is seeking an electrical engineering or computer engineering postdoctoral appointee to conduct research on deploying machine learning and numerical algorithms onto neuromorphic computing hardware.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Develop techniques for mapping novel brain-inspired and machine learning algorithms onto existing and emerging neuromorphic hardware. This includes analyzing, benchmarking, and modeling neuromorphic architectures
- Find opportunities to improve future neuromorphic platforms to impact new application domains
- Use neuromorphic sensors (such as spiking cameras) and neuromorphic processing to target edge computing applications like space and remote systems, autonomous vehicles, and cybersecurity
- Publish research results in high-quality journals and professional conference venues
Qualifications We Require
- Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related field
- Experience in customizing algorithms to specialized architectures such as neuromorphic hardware, FPGAs, GPUs, or machine learning accelerator
- Experience in a common programming language such as Python, C++, or MATLAB
- Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- Interest in neural-inspired and ground breaking machine learning algorithms (e.g. reinforcement learning, deep neural networks, spiking neural networks, recurrent neural networks)
- Interest in resource (e.g. SWaP or Data) constrained machine learning and deep learning methods and techniques. Experience with specialized computational architectures such as GPUs, FPGAs, neuromorphic processors, or machine learning accelerators.
- Experience with neural network modeling languages (PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, etc) or neural modeling languages (PyNN, NEST, NEURON, etc.)
- Prior research activity, publications in computing or electrical engineering conferences is highly desirable (a list of publications should be included in your CV)

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
