Senior Energy Specialist

The San Francisco Department of the Environment is hiring a Senior Energy Specialist to join our Energy Team.

As the Senior Energy Specialist, you will be responsible for the administration and implementation of State ratepayers-funded energy efficiency programs. In addition, you will assist with long-range planning – researching and developing policies and programs to decarbonize existing buildings and transportation sectors. You will have day-to-day decision-making responsibilities for programs and projects, as well as the ability to negotiate within project scopes. You will supervise a team of direct reports and be responsible for staff supervision and development.

What You'll Do

• Manage energy efficiency programs with local utilities and the Bay Area Regional Energy Network, including managing staff, contracts and budgets, conduct regular reporting to funders and the California Public Utilities Commission, and planning future energy efficiency programs.
• Research, analyze, and report on wide range of energy efficiency and clean transportation topics and policy issues, provide policy and strategic recommendations with a focus on equity, and participate in development of draft language for policy statements and local legislation.
• Perform various duties applying technical knowledge of energy efficiency and clean transportation that may include: data collection, root-cause analysis, develop strategies for solving technical and institutional problems, develop specifications for energy efficiency and electric vehicle charging equipment, and evaluate the effectiveness of installed equipment.
• Concurrently manage multiple energy efficiency and clean transportation projects. Deploy abilities to prioritize assignments, manage time with limited oversight, organize complex data and information, analyze for root causes of barriers and issues, and collaborate with diverse range of stakeholders to achieve mutually-beneficial outcomes.
• Obtain participation and manage communications among stakeholders including building other City departments and agencies, other local governments, state and federal agencies, advocates, community-based organizations.
