Job Description
The Systems Engineer/Operations Research Analyst in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Systems Engineering Research Division (SERD) supports the Department of Defense (DoD) in the effort to apply quantitative and qualitative decision support approaches to make better decisions for acquisition, planning, sustainment, and operations. The position will develop quantitative models of systems, operational environments, and/or systems of systems and develop methods, processes, and/or software tools to help design, integrate and manage complex systems and system engineering processes.
This position is located in our Smyrna, GA location.
Job Duties
- Develop quantitative decision support models
- Interface with sponsors to deconstruct and define the problems
- Develop mathematical models to generate and assess alternatives
- Implement executable decision support frameworks with tailored visualizations
- Support sponsor decision-making activities
- Collaborate, interface, and/or work with other researchers and multidisciplinary engineering teams on the above tasks
- Design, implement, and execute automated tests, both unit and integration tests, to verify framework functionality
- Contribute to completion of routine technical tasks related to modeling, running simulations, analyzing data, and/or developing decision support tools with guidance from a more experienced researchers
- Instantiate conceptual models into a computable form (if necessary with guidance from more experienced researchers), and implement decision support GUIs as a software product, or modify existing ones
- Perform trade studies via computer simulation and provides decision support for alternative architectures
- Utilize and apply technical principles, theories, and concepts from Modeling and Simulation, Data Analysis, and/or Operations Research
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December 2021
- 1+ years of experience using a Mission, Campaign, and/or System Modeling and Simulation tool (e.g., STORM, THUNDER, AFSIM, Brawler, CFD/FEA Tools, Modelica)
- Experience in Object Oriented Programming and/or modeling and simulation
Preferred Qualifications
- Secret Clearance
- Experience with the DoD Acquisition process
- Experience with requirements development and management
- Experience in Systems Engineering (SE) and/or aerospace engineering
- 1+ years experience programming in Python
- 1+ years modeling in AFSIM
