Intern, Marketplace Morning Report

Position Information:
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Location: New York or Los Angeles office or remote (anywhere within the U.S.A.)
  • Start Date: January 10, 2022 – May 27, 2022
  • Compensation: $15.00/hour

Intern, Marketplace Morning Report:
Marketplace Morning Report is looking for a dynamic intern for its Morning Report team. Are YOU that person? If so, you will have an opportunity to work closely alongside our show direct and overnight producer to learn and contribute to the production of five early morning news casts that reach more than 10 million listeners on close to 800 public radio stations across the country. This is an excellent internship opportunity if you have an active interest in audio and business journalism. This is an overnight shift (2:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time | 5:30am to 12:00pm Eastern Time).
 
Responsibilities:
  • Learn and perform a variety of production, research, and editorial tasks, including editing audio tape.
  • Write show promos, daily station updates, and other materials.
  • Contribute ideas for stories and other editorial material.
  • Conduct pre-interviews for on-air guests.
  • Database and web project as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Programming:
  • Participate in robust on-boarding experience
  • Professional development: on-the-job training, intercultural development assessment, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.
  • Participate in brown bag sessions to gain broader perspective of the organization
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled Senior in an undergraduate or graduate program OR have earned a degree within the last 12 months
  • A demonstrated interest in journalism (i.e., produced work for publication, worked at school newspaper/radio, etc.).
  • Must be able to work overnight shift from 2:30-8:30am.
  • Must have the ability to write, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products with the ability to learn new software programs.
  • Self-starter with an appetite for learning radio.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Coursework or experience in radio journalism.
