Summer Intern 2022 - Stress Testing Research - Division of Supervision & Regulation

The Stress Testing Research section in the Division of Supervision and Regulation conducts research and analysis that informs model and policy developments relating to the Federal Reserve’s stress testing program. The stress testing program consists of a set of forward-looking exercises intended to ensure that the largest financial institutions in the U.S. have sufficient capital to absorb losses and to continue to support operations during adverse economic conditions. The section economists have an active research agenda and work on research topics that vary from analyzing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to testing whether bank supervision affects credit to evaluating factors that lead to wealth inequality.

The summer intern in the Stress Testing Research section of the Division of Supervision and Regulation will collaborate with section Economists and Research Assistants (RAs) on a variety of policy-relevant research projects. The intern will work closely with section staff to analyze, interpret, and present data using R, Stata, or SAS. Stress Testing Research interns use and further develop their technical skills and their understanding of banking, finance, and economics. We work extensively with a variety of programming and statistical packages and provide training and assistance in developing proficiency.

Over the course of the summer internship, the student will:
- improve their programming skills (in R, Stata, or SAS)
- gain insight into economic analyses and interpretation
- become familiar with a variety of research topics
- and have an opportunity to contribute to a research paper or a policy project

While completing the above objectives, the student will gain experience with programming languages, analyzing, handling, and organizing data, and will have an opportunity to participate in original research. We hope this experience will help the student to determine if a career in research and economic policy would be of interest upon graduation.
