Educational Programming Internship (Stipend Available!): San Francisco Tenderloin Neighborhood

826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages six to eighteen with their creative and expository writing skills. Through this internship, grow your skills as an educator, gain professional development experience, and provide culturally-responsive individualized support to youth from under-resourced communities after a year of virtual education.

Location: Tenderloin Neighborhood, San Francisco
826 Tenderloin Center (180 Golden Gate Ave.)
Tenderloin Community School
Redding Elementary School

Schedule:
Between Mon, Tues & Thurs approx 9am - 3pm, total 10-15 hrs/week 
Stipend approx. $740/month 

About:
Education Program Interns will be tutoring students in small groups, supporting lesson plans from our staff and copy editing students’ writing for publication.

We are committed to fostering an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and we encourage Black, Indigenous, and people of color to apply. To better support our student population, we are seeking applicants with Spanish and Arabic language skills.

826 alumni and applicants with financial need may qualify for stipends of approx. $740/month
Interns who can commit to 2 semesters in-person (Fall and Spring) will receive a higher weekly stipend.

We’re currently hiring interns for the Fall 2021 season, which will take place in-person (record of COVID-19 vaccinations required).

  • Cover letter that explains what you will bring to the position and what you hope to gain as an intern
  • Two professional references (contact information only, no reference letters required)

Requirements:
  • Minimum commitment of 10-15 hours per week for the duration of the semester, through December (increased stipend available for a commitment through May)
  • Commitment to our values and mission of supporting youth from under-resourced communities ages 6-18 with their writing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (additional language skills in Spanish or Arabic preferred)
  • Teaching/tutoring experience with youth in a professional setting preferred
  • Editing/proofreading experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Zoom preferred
  • Background check, TB test, and COVID-19 Vaccination (required upon position acceptance)
