MS/ PhD Research & Development / Product Development Engineer - San Jose, CA
R&D Senior Engineer / Scientist (P3)
At Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, we are at the heart of discovery, assisting the world's life sciences professionals with solutions that simplify complex processes, automate procedures and integrate workflows to accelerate breakthroughs in scientific research, medicine and industry. By listening to our customers' needs, we research and develop technology and products that fuel groundbreaking innovation. Beckman Coulter Life Sciences is a world leader in low-volume liquid handling. We use Acoustic Droplet Ejection (ADE) to provide highly accurate, fully automated, nanoliter resolution, non-contact dispensing. The ‘touchless’ ultrasound technology in the Echo® liquid handlers provides dramatically better experimental results by eliminating pipette tips and saves hundreds of thousands of dollars in consumable costs. Accuracy is maintained from first drop through last for a wide variety of fluids, including many that present substantial challenges when using conventional methods. Beckman’s Echo liquid handlers are used in all the top 20 pharmaceutical companies, as well as in leading academic and research institutions worldwide. Applications include compound management, genomics, synthetic biology, proteomics, cell transfer, next generation sequencing, and precision medicine.
Beckman Coulter Life Sciences seeks a highly motivated, exceptionally qualified candidate, with proven expertise on ultrasonic devices and systems, to join our R&D team that will develop the systems and components of next generation ADE instruments. Qualified candidates are expected to demonstrate exceptional skills and knowledge in the areas of ultrasonic systems and devices, including analog and digital, RF, and signal processing components. In particular, candidates with knowledge and hand-on experience with modeling, design, fabrication, and measurement of state-of-the-art ultrasonic transducers are preferred. Exposure to a broader range of acoustics research, including nonlinear acoustics, particle scattering, and ultrasonic actuation methods would be considered a plus.
This position is a “STEM” future leader hire at Beckman, where the successful candidate will collaborate with multiple teams in the first 2.5 years, gaining exposure to a variety of technologies and projects, giving a foundation for a significant impact in the future of R&D at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences.
