Support engineering, fabrication, and maintenance tasks for the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL) engineering team

Responsibilities


  • Machining, advanced mechanical fabrication and assembly, maintenance, refurbishment and repair of acquisition systems and support hardware.
  • Assist/perform with testing of components, subassemblies and systems.
  • Perform sea tests offshore to include deployment/recovery of systems while utilizing offshore machinery. Provide general support on vessel as needed. Support vessel mobilization and demobilization efforts on site.
  • Assist with preparation for offsite operations in house. This is to include inspection, loading, unloading, cleaning, refurbishment, repair, and maintenance of systems and associated hardware/equipment to support offshore activities.
  • Maintenance of designated support area(s) and the preventative maintenance of associated hardware, to include documentation, scheduling, and execution.
  • Assist with procurement, advanced support documentation and tracking.
  • Training/supervision of students and junior staff as needed.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
  • Transport items as required, CDL not required.


Required Qualifications


  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Four years of machining experience.
  • Ability to interpret manuals/drawings. 
  • Experience with construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical hardware.
  • Must be skilled in the use of basic hand tools, bench tools, and standard machine shop equipment.
  • Computer skills using MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.
US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Associate's degree in Applied Sciences and/or certification in technical trade and four or more years of machining experience.
  • Experience with operation of machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, and measuring tools.
  • Experience with specialized electrical or mechanical hand and bench tools.
  • Experience with molding components and encapsulation.
  • Experience working with SDS/MSDS with shop chemicals and corresponding PPE.
  • Advanced diagnostic and repair experience of mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical systems
