2022 Injury Science Research Experiences for Undergraduates Summer Internship

Injury Science Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
10 Week Paid Summer Internships
 
The Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, a leading multidisciplinary injury research center, has secured funding to continue designation as an Injury Science Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site by the National Science Foundation (NSF). CIRP’s REU program will give undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in fundamental research on the causes and consequences of child and adolescent injury. As part of an interdisciplinary team, they work across the fields of engineering, behavioral science, education, population science, and statistics. Students will apply this scientific foundation to assist in developing evidence-based prevention products, programs, policies, and interventions.
 
Underrepresented students are encouraged to apply including students who are – who are Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native Pacific Islander, and Latinx, female, veterans, students with disabilities, and students from colleges and universities where STEM research opportunities are limited, including two-year colleges

The 2022 Injury Science REU program runs June 6, 2022 to August 12, 2022.

The REU will provide student participants with: 
·       one-on-one mentorship from leading scientists
·       participation in a unique, multidisciplinary research approach
·       hands-on research experience
·       $5,000 stipend
·       free housing for students with projects on campus
·       $500 contribution toward travel expenses

With mentoring from a well-established team of highly trained pediatric researchers, REU students will:
·       conduct research to build the scientific foundation for injury interventions
·       translate the interventions into practical solutions
·       evaluate the success of these solutions

Eligibility
Students must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible to apply:
  • 3.0 GPA
  • 1 year college completed by June 6, 2022
  • Anticipated graduation after August 12, 2022
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Students interested in becoming researchers in their field of study; students who wish to pursue an advanced degree to conduct research in their field of study. We do not accept applications from students interested in pursuing an MD.
