Forest Project Director
Recruitment: Forest Project Director, California Chapter
The Forest Project Director is responsible for leading the team’s efforts to expedite the planning and implementation of large-scale forest restoration and adaptation projects, including expanded use of prescribed fire and managed wildfire. This role will initiate, sustain, and grow external partnerships with a diversity of stakeholders (e.g., state, and federal staff, private companies, water managers), to scale important parts of the overall forest strategy. For example, the Project Director will work with local government, water managers and NGOs to design, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of flagship forest restoration and adaptation projects in the Sierra Nevada. This role will also work with TNC’s scientists, policy experts and economists to develop market-based solutions (e.g., lowering insurance premiums by using ecological forestry, incentivizing clean and less carbon intensive use of forest restoration byproducts). Lastly, the Project Director is expected to engage in the development of state and federal policy, identify and secure sources of funding, and evaluate the potential for new strategic partnerships, in consultation with members of a large, multidisciplinary team.

The preferred location for this position is negotiable between Sacramento, Auburn, and Truckee, California.
