GIS Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management

Bureau of Land Management Internship

Background: ABPA Institute, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), is seeking a variety of Direct Hire Authority (DHA) Interns interested in 11 week paid internships in support of BLM. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is looking to engage the next generation of conservation stewards; while expanding their diversity and inclusion. Description: BLM Arizona Geospatial Program is providing an opportunity for a DHA-RAI intern to support natural resource management through the creation and use of web-enabled geospatial mapping and work with BLM resource specialists for data collection/improvement data management. The assigned work would support BLM's vision to create, analyze, and disseminate accurate, user-friendly information on BLM Arizona's public land resources. Working as an intern within the AZ State Office Resource Information Branch (AZ-952), the intern would be exposed to a variety of natural resource fields including work completed by the Division of Resources & Planning (AZ-930), Division of Lands, Minerals, & Energy (AZ-920) and Division of Public Affairs & Communication (AZ-912). Interns would also become familiar with working effectively as a member of a team despite potentially stressful and difficult conditions, and effectively communicating ideas and concerns as they arise to supervisors, colleagues, and BLM staff. In addition to gaining valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced exciting environment, interns would also have the opportunity to request work projects in their particular area of interest. BLM AZ-952 is interested in providing this internship as a way to expose new college students/graduates to BLM's land management work where it utilizes geospatial technology, a framework for data organization in land-based agencies when they leverage GIS's locational intelligence properties.

Qualifications:   *18 or older *US Citizen or permanent resident (to comply with federal funding requirements) *Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Must be degree-seeking (those enrolled in certificate programs do not qualify) *The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their skills and experience through their resume and application and be in pursuit of a degree in a relevant field.

Start Date: June 2022 End Date: August 2022 Duration: 11-weeks
Compensation:$600-$700/wk. Compensation is dependent on education level (Undergraduate/Graduate). Relocation funds are provided to those who qualify. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to provide such documentation; a Driving Record check will be completed during the onboarding process. (Interns must be 21+ to drive agency vehicles); Ability to undergo a federal criminal history check
