The CPUC Energy Division’s Climate & Equity Initiatives team works on a broad range of policies and programs that help achieve California’s greenhouse gas reduction goals. Specifically, the team provides technical expertise and implementation oversight of policies and programs related to clean energy research and development programs, environmental justice and disadvantaged communities, climate adaptation, Cap-and-Trade, and combined heat and power procurement. Under the close supervision of the section Program and Project Supervisor, the analyst will assist CPUC decision-makers in developing high-level policy and oversee programs that are developed pursuant to those policies. To help develop CPUC policy, the analyst will conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis, coordinate with internal and external subject matter experts and develop work products that are used to advise key decision-makers such as Commissioners, Judges, and Energy Division management; this includes briefing documents and PowerPoint presentations.
The analyst will support oversight of electric and decarbonizing natural gas research, development, and deployment (RD&D) programs to ensure they meet California's goals to reduce greenhouse gas, support reliability, and promote equity by assessing how RD&D programs can benefit disadvantaged communities. The analyst will also support the section related to other climate issues including Cap-and-Trade, climate adaption, and energy procurement. In this regard, the analyst will help to ensure the state's electric and natural gas systems provide safe, reliable, and affordable service to customers while mitigating and adapting to climate change. This involves coordinating with staff subject matter experts throughout the CPUC and with entities that administer these RD&D programs, including the regulated utilities and the California Energy Commission.
The analyst will also provide general support to the section including assisting with cross-proceeding work, workshops, developing website content, oversight of a consultant related RD&D database management, and responding to information requests, both internal and external.
