Intern - Software Cat Risk R&D

NOTE: This position is 100% remote.

SageSure, the insurance first, tech-forward, capital-lite managing general underwriter that focuses on the underserved, preferred homeowners middle-market, is seeking an Intern (Software) to join our summer internship program. Over the course of this 10-week program, Interns will gain tangible, hands-on experience and insight into our business operations. After 3 days of orientation and training, you’ll join our Software Product team, where you’ll be assigned projects, with unlimited opportunity for challenges and achievement. We have, very often, considered our interns for post-graduation roles within the company.

Overview:
SageSure, the insurance first, tech-forward, capital-lite managing general underwriter that focuses on the underserved, preferred homeowners middle-market, is seeking an Intern (Software) to join our summer internship program. Over the course of this 10-week program, Interns will gain tangible, hands-on experience and insight into our business operations. After 3 days of orientation and training, you’ll join our Software Product team, where you’ll be assigned projects, with unlimited opportunity for challenges and achievement. We have, very often, considered our interns for post-graduation roles within the company.

What you'll be doing:

  • Research and analysis support on ad-hoc natural catastrophe risk projects
  • Learn the basics of natural catastrophe risk modeling (e.g. data inputs, model settings, model output, etc.)
  • Collaborative teamwork and individual Capstone project
  • Deliver regular project updates to the Catastrophe Risk R&D Team
  • Receive coaching, mentoring and feedback from Catastrophe Risk R&D and other Innovation team members

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Desire to work in the insurtech industry
  • An undergraduate or graduate education in atmospheric/climate science and/or engineering with an anticipated graduation date in 2022 or 2023
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and hungry to learn
  • Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Desired proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS, Python or R, and SQL
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Ideal candidate also have:

  • Prior internship experience
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
