TITLE
Area Leader

LOCATION
Grandview, WA

REPORTS TO
Plant Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages teams of hourly technicians to achieve daily production requirements.
  • Ensures that the production employees have the capability and resources to meet established performance goals.
  • Uses strong problem-solving skills to identify losses and develops plans and strategies to eliminate losses in areas of safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Understands the operation and applies a system view to the material and equipment flow; uses systems that allocate employees or equipment with and/or across assets.
  • Leads and motivates employees in development, application, and tracking of standards and objectives.
  • Works closely with managers, plant engineering, and technicians to solve problems and improve the department.
  • Develops technician skills within department, oversees training and qualification programs for new hires, hourly technicians, and team leaders.
  • Manages time and attendance for teams (including payroll approval).
  • Manages personnel issues, i.e., vacation planning, staffing, temporary employee staffing, training plans, and conflict resolution.
  • Administers all aspects of the collective bargaining agreement in a fair and equitable way.
  • Other tasks as required

SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technical Field preferred
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or managing others in a manufacturing environment may be substituted for a degree

Experience
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required; food manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading, supervising, or managing others is preferred
  • Previous people management experience is a plus

Other
  • Ability to work well with people and resources both internal and external to site
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Effective presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Able to prioritize work in a high demand work environment and continually focus on multiple tasks at hand
  • Possess the passion to train and motivate others
  • Strong Supervisory and Leadership Skills
  • Understanding of processing equipment and its key components is preferred
  • Understanding of good manufacturing practices and procedures is preferred
  • Previous union experience a plus
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that most effectively supports the organization
  • Willingness to work off-shifts or weekends as needed
