Resources Management Business Intern

The Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) develops transformative, cross-cutting technologies that lead to research and technology breakthroughs to enable NASA’s missions and grow the commercial space industry through job creation and is broadening its focus on cross-cutting space technologies that will support creating good jobs in a growing space industry. The Space Technology investment portfolio covers the entire technology readiness spectrum. The Resources Management Office (RMO) is responsible for working with the STMD division offices and programs to optimize resources so that STMD can achieve its strategic goals and objectives. The RMO manages the development of the STMD annual budget and the related integrated performance documents, as well as the financial systems that support funds execution and budget management. The RMO utilizes and provides guidance on the appropriate rules for implementing full cost accounting for STMD, in addition to ensuring adherence with appropriation controls. Resource analysts are responsible for financial analysis and must be able to analyze and translate program requirements into budget requests. The RMO provides support to the STMD Associate Administrator in developing overall guidance, strategy, and advocacy for the STMD budget to as well as supporting discussions with the executive branch and legislative branches of the U.S. Government. Additionally, the RMO serves as the principal directorate liaison to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

Interns will support the NASA HQ Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD), Resource Management Office (RMO), supporting multiple STMD programs, most specifically meeting NASA Program Plan Budget and Execution (PPBE, budget) requirements and deliverables. Intern will assist with SMART data management and analysis, action tracking, and gathering and synthesizing data to support the NASA and STMD PPBE process. Assist with SharePoint data management to ensure seamless data and file migration. Develop and recommend standardizations, including new data management and visualization, that are applicable to and leading to increasing collaborative file editing/file sharing, process improvement, and organization efficiency. Interns will interface with Program Executives (PEs), Principal Technologists (PTs), Program Managers (PMs) and Program/Resource Analysts (RAs), as needed. Interns will also be given an opportunity to shadow and learn from a variety of NASA employees (from early career to SES-level) to gain a better understanding of the federal government budget process (and financial systems). Work environment will be hybrid - office setting and virtual.

Skills needed: Microsoft Office, most specifically expertise in Excel focusing on data visualization. PowerPoint and Word documents.
