Investment Banking Analyst - Oil & Gas Exploration & Production - Houston

Scope

Houlihan Lokey’s Oil & Gas Group is a recognized leader in providing corporate finance (M&A, A&D, capital markets), valuation and financial restructuring advisory services to upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas companies and their investors. This dedicated team of financial professionals focuses primarily on complex, middle market to large corporate M&A, A&D, valuation and transaction opinions, private placement capital markets financing and financial restructuring transactions in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry. The Oil & Gas Group is a global, cross-product, collaborative, team with professionals in Houston, New York, Dallas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East that works on domestic U.S., international and cross-border deals. Over the past year, the Oil & Gas Group has worked on over two dozen engagements, contributing to Houlihan Lokey’s ranking as 2020’s top M&A advisor for U.S. Energy & Power transactions under $1.0 Billion.
 
Responsibilities
 
Houlihan Lokey is seeking a Houston-based, qualified, motivated Financial Analyst. The Oil & Gas Group hires Financial Analysts to work in an industry-dedicated, highly collaborative team. As a cross-product industry team, the Oil & Gas Group offers Financial Analysts a unique opportunity to work on a wide variety of transactions, including M&A, A&D, corporate valuation, board advisory, financial restructuring and capital raises. Associates typically function as members of deal teams comprising a Managing Director, Director - Vice President, Associate, and Financial Analyst, plus technical professionals. 
 
Responsibilities include:
 
Ø Advising Oil & Gas companies and investors in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors on the evaluation, marketing, and execution of transactions
Ø Performing all pertinent financial analyses, including with respect to:
o   Valuations (net asset value, trading comparables, precedent transactions, etc.)
o   M&A and A&D combination / accretion and dilution and associated synergy analyses
o   Various capital structure analyses, including debt and equity capital raises, terms and structures, debt capacity analyses, etc.
o   Capital structure waterfalls, coverage and recovery and equity split analyses
o   Returns / IRR analyses
Ø Interfacing with the A&D technical and transaction team in evaluating oil & gas assets



Basic Qualifications

Candidates must have a strong knowledge of accounting and applied financial theory, keen analytical capabilities, and excellent verbal and written communications skills; dedication to the E&P industry is a must; prior investment banking and upstream technical experience is preferred.
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
Ø At least one year of investment banking or similar experience is highly recommended.
Ø Experience (including technical) within the upstream oil and gas industry is preferred but not required
Ø B.A. or B.S. in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Applied Economics and/or course work in accounting and finance is highly recommended
Ø Fundamental understanding of valuation theory, methodologies, and applications
Ø Strong financial and computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ø Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff
Ø Strong analytical abilities, including financial modeling skills
Ø Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ø Strong interest in the Oil & Gas industry
