Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Interns
The City of Idaho Falls is currently accepting applications for two (2) positions for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern. This position performs a variety of professional and technical duties related to map production and database updates. Works under the general supervision of the GIS Coordinator.
Would prefer the candidate(s) to work 40 hours/week for 20 weeks.
Assists in the maintenance and revisions of the Geographic Information System (GIS) database for the division. Works to develop and record division needs, sources of existing data, and procedures to maintain, revise, and create database.
Work with the GIS Coordinator to produce analysis and/or find solutions to complex problems.
Assist the GIS Coordinator to prepare, revise, and provide, as necessary, a variety of maps and digital data required by City staff and the public.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Has completed at least one (1) year of college coursework covering Geographic Information Systems (GIS) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); basic knowledge of computer software, hardware, and reproduction equipment; familiarity with G.P.S.; basic knowledge of Arc GIS for Desktop.
Ability to read, interpret and produce maps and charts with GIS software.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees and public; ability to work in a position which requires continuous sitting or standing and concentrated mental applications; ability to understand mathematical/engineering calculations; ability to write and read legal descriptions.
