Summer Associate, Strategic Learning & Impact

The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a 2022 Summer Associate to join our Strategic Learning & Impact team. The Strategic Learning & Impact team works with Foundation staff, grantees, and partners to set clear strategies, measure progress toward impact, and enable adaptation based on insights and lessons learned. As such, the team designs and facilitates the Foundation’s efforts to proactively measure, assess, learn, and share insights from its work.

As a Summer Associate at The Rockefeller Foundation, you will have the chance to contribute to our initiatives through engaging, meaningful work assignments. 

Please Note: 
  • This position is open to graduate students only.
  • Submission of a cover letter is required.
  • The 2022 summer program will run 10-12 weeks, with exact dates to be determined.
  • This position will be based in our New York office; however, the program is planned to remain remote.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Strategy: Partner closely with Strategic Learning & Impact team members to provide input into ongoing strategy development, such as developing theories of change, surfacing assumptions, making thinking visible, asking tough questions, analyzing data necessary for strategic choice-making, and right-sizing goals.
  • Measurement and evaluation: Support the design and execution of measurement and evaluation plans; help identify potential third-party evaluation and learning partners.
  • Strategic learning: Synthesize complex data into timely insights that serve learning needs and inform strategic decision making; collaborate with program, Legal, and Communications staff, as well as grantees and external stakeholders, to translate findings into high quality knowledge products that support shared learning internally and externally; support the design and execution of Foundation processes that enable shared learning, reflection, strategy improvement, and knowledge management
  • Innovation: Help the Foundation keep abreast of strategic learning and evaluation trends and emerging approaches (such as equitable evaluation, systems thinking, lean data methods, facilitation techniques, etc.)

Education, Training and Experience
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in one of the following areas: business, technology, public policy, government, international development, or a related discipline.
  • Strategy development, strategic planning, measurement, and evaluation, and/or strategic learning experience in the philanthropic, not-for-profit, and/or private sectors.
  • Comfort analyzing, synthesizing, visualizing, and communicating complex information (both quantitative and qualitative) in a pragmatic and compelling manner to a wide range of audiences.
  • Content expertise in one or more of the Foundation’s areas of programmatic work including public health, energy, climate, food systems and nutrition, innovative finance, and economic opportunity preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Monday.com, Mural, and data visualization software preferred and ability to learn new applications quickly. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a proactive self-starter. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
