Research Analyst, Research Department, International Monetary Fund

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) seeks a dynamic and highly motivated Research Analyst (RA) with strong quantitative and analytical skills. The successful candidate should have the proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment. The Research Analyst will be responsible for a wide range of support including, but not limited to, data gathering, analysis of economic or statistical data sets, and high-quality analyses.
This is a contractual appointment for one year, renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, depending on the business need and performance of the incumbent.

Job Description
The candidate will be assigned to work in the Commodities Unit (CU) in the Research Department of the IMF. CU provides timely assessments of energy and commodity markets developments. It produces research to enhance our understanding of commodity markets and commodity related issues including macro-critical issues linked to energy transitions and climate change. The candidate will support the CU’s commodity market surveillance agenda and contribute to analytical work of the unit.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research, collect and compile information; maintain and update quantitative and qualitative economic, financial or statistical databases (including retrieving data from Bloomberg, HAVER, and Datastream).
  • Process, consolidate, and transform data sets, within and between databases, using statistical and/or econometric techniques.
The Research Assistant must possess exemplary data management, organizational, and macroeconomic skills and be proficient in a range of techniques needed to support the work of the department.

Research analyst positions are filled with candidates physically residing in the local Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.
