Sonoma Water Grant and Budget Analyst

A cash allowance of approximately $600/month will be added to the starting pay*

At Sonoma Water, the Grant and Budget Analyst plays an important role in assisting the Agency with managing a robust grants program and is directly responsible for a variety of fiscal responsibilities related to grants administration. The Grant and Budget Analyst drafts, monitors, and tracks new and ongoing grant project budgets; analyzes related financial information; and develops financial reports and backup documentation to be submitted to funding agencies. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing grant invoices/reports prepared by accounting staff
  • Setting up financial rules applicable to specific grant or loan programs in the Enterprise Financial System (EFS)
  • Collaborating with internal and external personnel to gather necessary documentation and meet deadlines required by granting agencies
  • Presenting at various Boards for which Sonoma Water is the fiscal agent

The ideal candidate will bring a desire to learn and help improve processes, a collaborative mindset to work on project teams, and possess:

  • Significant Excel and EFS experience in order to efficiently work with large amounts of data and create complex reports
  • The ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a high functioning program support team
  • Knowledge of State and Federal grant claiming and reporting processes
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting the requirements of grants and loan documents, funding agreements, and related government specifications
  • The ability to actively listen, communicate well with others, adjust to work load changes, and work under pressure to meet multiple, competing deadlines


Sonoma Water is a special district formed by the California State Legislature in 1949 and is responsible for providing a safe and reliable water supply to its customers in Sonoma and Marin counties. Sonoma Water also maintains 75 miles of flood control channels and provides sanitation services. Employing approximately 230 employees, Sonoma Water consists of five divisions including Engineering and Resource Planning, Environmental Resources and Public Affairs, Water/Wastewater Operations, Maintenance, and Administrative Services. Sonoma Water supports the concept of environmental sustainability, focusing on renewable power sources, and strives to be a leader in its water use efficiency and fishery restoration programs.
 
Employees of Sonoma Water are employees of a special district and are not subject to the provisions of the Civil Service Ordinance of the County of Sonoma. The formal title for this position is Department Analyst.
