Director of Engineering - Asylum Research

At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Director of Engineering
 
We are looking for someone who has significant experience taking scientific instrumentation designs from prototype to production, with the end-product meeting goals for performance, ease-of-use, manufacturability, and serviceability. The Director of Engineering will work closely with the Director of Marketing, Director of Operations, CTO, and R&D group to meet these goals and will be a member of the business leadership team.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced hands[FO1] -on Director of Engineering for Asylum Research to lead a world-class team of mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software engineers in designing the next generation of best-in-class Atomic Force Microscopes.

This role will have upto 8 director reports.  
 
 
The Role
  • In collaboration with Marketing and Operations,own the delivery of the roadmap for new products.
  • Lead a team of mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and manufacturing engineers to deliver projects on time and in specification.
  • Create / maintain documentation that facilitates others (e.g., Service) to further develop or maintain the products you produce.
  • Ensure the appropriate level of technical expertise in the business through continuous team development, recruitment, and outsourcing.
  • Provide support for existing products and ongoing support for new products as needed.
  • Plan, estimate, prioritise and manage work to ensure projects meet the agreed timeline.
  • Pick new tools and techniques that will continue to improve product quality and the development process.
  • Experience designing with compliance (CE, FCC, FDA, IEC, RoHS, Reach, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with new product development
 
Education/Qualifications
  • Engineering or other STEM degree.
  • Significant experience leading product development teams from prototype to production for scientific instrumentation
  • Experience working with third party engineering services as well as with design for manufacturing / outsourcing.
 
Professional Skills/Abilities
 
  • Highly effective communicator and leader
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Highly knowledgeable about Project Management strategies for leading large projects / initiatives
