Structural Analyst

Summary:

The Structural Analyst will develop and maintain the working knowledge of aircraft fundamentals and capabilities of structural designs on Scaled projects along with significant responsibility across multiple programs. This role requires a sound knowledge of airframe design and aircraft component design. This work includes Aircraft loads, composite material analysis, and manufacturing with the encouragement to cross-train and support other teams based on interests. Training and work opportunities are available in disciplines such as loads, mass properties, aero elasticity/flutter analysis, and flight test

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Hand-calculations when FEA is not necessary or to validate FEA results 
  • Material selection and sizing
  • Test design and execution of aircraft structures to validate analysis
  • Aircraft loads development and implementation
  • Structural sizing for composite airframes

Required:

  • BS in Engineering, Math or Physics
  • 5+ years experience in aerospace structural design and analysis
  • Strong intuition for statics, strength of materials, freebody diagrams
  • Capable of building a finite element model, analyzing, and reporting results using a commercial finite element analysis program, such as Abaqus, ANSYS, and Nastran
  • Working knowledge of composite laminate theory
  • Basic knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as Solidworks, CATIA, NX, Creo, etc
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint Capable of writing detailed and general reports and effectively communicating technical details with colleagues orally and written
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship

Desired:

  • MS in Engineering
  • Expert knowledge of Nastran finite element methods for structural stress and dynamic analysis 
  • Proficiency of commercial CAD software, such as Solidworks, CATIA, NX, Creo, Fusion, etc
  • Proficiency with modern programming languages such as MATLAB, VBA, Python, Java, etc
  • Capable of creating custom software for the automation of analysis and reporting
  • Capable of performing classical aircraft sizing methods following aircraft loads specifications Title 14 Part 25, Part 23(now ASTM F 3116_F3116M), MIL8865, MIL 516c, JSSG-2006
  • Understands basic manufacturing methods for composite, metallic, and FDM plastics
  • Experience in flutter/divergence aeroelasticity analysis
  • Experience in manned and/or unmanned flight testing aerodynamics, loads or aeroelasticity
  • Aircraft homebuilding experience or other hands-on design or build experience
  • Pilot’s License
  • Additional degrees or additional relevant work experience
