Equity Research Associate, Fintech

We are seeking a Research Associate to support our FinTech coverage, which includes market-leading companies including Affirm, Toast, SoFi, Nubank, Lightspeed and Shift4. Our new Research Associate will be a core member of Payments, Processors, and IT Services franchise, and will also work on collaborative projects with our other teams, offering an unparalleled opportunity to understand the entire TMT value chain.
 
A Research Associate’s responsibilities cover all aspects of creating in-depth, fundamental research, including:
  • Building and maintaining company and sector models
  • Performing sophisticated financial and non-financial analyses, ranging from focused company-specific items to those at the industry-level, and gathering the information required to perform them
  • Authoring research reports, creating exhibits, and putting together presentations
  • Generating ideas for new topics to explore in our work
  • Communicating with clients and internal sales force regarding our research and answering any questions they may have
  • Interacting with covered companies and industry contacts
 
The ideal Senior Research Associate’s qualifications will include:
  • MBA or Bachelor’s degree from a top university and an exemplary academic record, with a preference for those majoring in finance, accounting, business, economics, mathematics, or other investment-related disciplines
  • One to three years’ experience in sell-side or buy-side equity research, asset management, investment banking, or private equity, with a preference for those with experience analyzing the TMT space
  • Outstanding modeling and analytical skills, underpinned by a solid understanding of finance, accounting, economics, and strategy, and with an attention to detail
  • An ability to learn new material quickly, a solid work ethic, and an innate desire to succeed and achieve a high standard of excellence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work both independently in an unstructured environment and as part of a team
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with experience in applications like Bloomberg a plus
