Environmental Scientist/ Regulatory Compliance Professional

VESTRA Resources, Inc. is looking for a committed, innovative individual that enjoys regulatory and technical challenges, has a desire to solve problems, and likes to think outside of the box to join our environmental and engineering services team. This is a full-time, 40 hours/ week, benefited position. This position may require occasional overtime and weekend hours. This is not a remote position; this position will report to our office location with some travel required for field assignments.

This person will manage projects associated with site characterization, permit compliance, stormwater remediation and other environmental compliance issues for public and private sector clients.

Projects include a mix of office and fieldwork responsibilities. Fieldwork includes field data collection; ability to locate positions and plot locations in difficult steep terrain; familiarity with global positioning systems (GPS) electronic data recorders; sampling various media (groundwater, soil, surface water, etc.); documenting activities onsite and directing subcontractors. Office tasks include data reduction, report writing, computing and statistical techniques, and coordinating logistics for field efforts.

Responsibilities include:
  • Manage permitting, compliance, and design projects
  • Provide a high level of technical competency
  • Work both independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team
  • Prepare timely, clear, well-written project deliverables
  • Interact and communicate with clients to ensure client satisfaction
  • Meet project objectives for deliverables, schedule and budget
  • Perform some business development for business sector

Qualifications include:
  • B.S. degree in hydrology, geology, biology, environmental science, agricultural science, forestry, chemistry, engineering or related technical field required.
  • M.S. and ability to obtain professional licenses preferred.
  • Some experience in environmental consulting or closely related industry preferred
  • Progressively responsible project management experience, including demonstrated success in preparing project deliverables, managing projects schedules and budgets, and communications with clients a plus.

  • Experience with and demonstrated interest in the California and Federal regulatory compliance framework including:
  1. California Titles 14, 23, 26 and 27 and related guidelines for water-related site cleanup and remediation regulations compliance issues in the state (RWQCB and DTSC),
  2. Waste classification and disposal regulations (RWQCB and DTSC),
  3. Environmental review (CEQA),
  4. CDFW requirements, and
  5. Mining/abandoned mine regulations (OMR and RWQCB).
  6. Experience in Federal regulatory framework including CERCLA, CWA (including NPDES and ACOE subsections), and RCRA.

  • Experience with stormwater preferred
  • Any combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered
  • Strong personal references demonstrating ability and commitment as a team player and skill in handling interpersonal relationships

  • Self-motivated; strong initiative and work ethic
  • Positive and energetic attitude
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows, Internet Browsers, MS Office Suite, including Word Excel, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and be insurable as this position requires driving Company vehicles for field assignments
  • Must be physically and mentally capable of working in a wide range of physical and environmental conditions (e.g. off trail rugged hiking, remote locations). This position may include individual/solo field assignments.
  • Ability to interpret maps and use GPS.
  • Ability to lift and move approximately 50 lbs., work in the field, operate a boat and ATV, and operate and calibrate field measurement equipment.

VESTRA offers competitive pay and benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, LTD), 401k match, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, and opportunities for training and personal growth. The salary for this type of position is $58,240 - $80,520 and will be assigned based on the level of experience applicable to the position. Salary may be higher based upon applicable experience beyond 7 years, graduate and post graduate studies, or professional licensing.
