The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) is seeking an organized, team player for the role of Pantry Warehouse Coordinator. This position supervises program volunteers to coordinate all aspects of securing food donations and receiving food for the Jewish Community Pantry. Additionally, this position is responsible for inventory management, food distribution, and assisting in the development of an annual food budget.

The Pantry Warehouse Coordinator is expected to work from the Jewish Community Pantry (at 29th and Center St.) as needed and remaining hours and location to be determined in partnership with the Pantry Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • In partnership with the Pantry volunteers, monitors and maintains records of Pantry inventory.
  • Ensure that Pantry is adequately stocked with a variety of food (grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and dairy).
  • Assists in unloading food deliveries and sorting food products.
  • Ensures proper & safe food handling and storage best practices.
  • Coordinates the receipt of donations from drives and other community resources; ensure that volunteers inspect expiration dates, packaging damage, etc.
  • Works with local food banks to order and/or purchase food.
  • Solicits the donation of food from local businesses.
  • Keeps informed about state and partner food storage regulations and parameters.
  • Serves as first response for facility needs.
  • Drives the JCC van to pick up food orders, diaper orders, and other Pantry purchases.
  • Actively seeks ways to improve our service model in order to better serve residents and best use available resources.
  • Establishes operational procedures for activities, such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current.
  • Recommends changes to existing safety policies and procedures for all activities; maintains current knowledge of and implements existing applicable federal and state safety and health requirements.
  • Works with Coordinator to recruit, supervise, and train volunteers to pick up, deliver, and stock food.
  • Inspects physical condition of the warehouse and equipment and prepares work orders for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment; reports on and corrects problems.
  • Establishes operational procedures for activities, such as verification of incoming and outgoing donations, handling and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current.
  • Recommends changes to existing safety policies and procedures for all activities; maintains current knowledge of and implements existing applicable federal and state safety and health requirements.
  • Participates in and conducts training.
  • Inspects physical condition of the warehouse and equipment and prepares work orders for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment; reports on and corrects problems.
  • Performs the MOD duties as assigned on a weekly and annual basis.
  • Actively promotes and practices the organization’s Positive Rules of Communication.
  • Assume responsibilities as assigned for JCC special events.
  • Performs other duties and assumes additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications — Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements (KSAs)
  • Knowledge and experience with food pantry management and/or transferrable job experience.
  • Familiarity with under-served communities.
  • Demonstrated skill of effective team building and supervision of volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse staff and populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate cargo vans and 10 ft. box trucks.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software: including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.

Education and/or Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a warehouse coordinator or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 1-2 years of community outreach experience preferred.
