Database and EBS Administrator

The Database Administrator implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates policies, procedures and standards relating to database management and monitors transaction activity and utilization. May develop stored procedures and/or triggers. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

− Works jointly with the user departments to define information requirements and operational needs, questions of system intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, internal checks and controls, and conformance with data management standards.

− Understands technical and operational differences among database platforms (e.g. Oracle, Microsoft, Open Source) to provide database support across platforms.

− Provides recommendations for development of database platform strategies.

− Collaborates with other departments to provide support for the Sewer District’s process network as it relates to databases of automation systems and warehousing strategies for process data.

− Provides mentorship to Database Administrator to advance knowledge and expertise in areas of database technology and management.

− Supports users and applications developers in using data resources, and functions as technical contact for Sewer District database users and departments’ data owners.

− Understands details of system design and data structures to undertake the planning, design, installation and maintenance of new databases, software upgrades, and changes, as well as application of database patches.

− Develops and implements strategies, standards, and requirements to ensure database security, integrity, backup and recovery procedures and audit functions. Specifically, implements plans to provide Oracle Backup and Recovery (RMAN), and MySQL database Backup and Recovery.

− Administers disaster recovery plan, builds, and maintains standby databases, and periodically tests recovery procedures.

− Maintains optimal database performance including but not limited to performance, storage and growth management, system resources, and fault management.

− Develops and performs database maintenance procedures, including regular table and index maintenance.

− Monitors and checks Operating System performance (e.g. Linux File system) and Space, installing appropriate patches and modules (e.g. Linux package) as needed.

− Creates and maintains objects, data models and data maps and maintains data dictionaries and characteristics of databases. Defines database object needs.

− Administers database infrastructure for specific applications, including server configuration for Oracle install and configuration, and Oracle alert monitoring. Installs monitoring tools and ensures they are patched to current levels (e.g. Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 13c).

− Partners with other IT Department staff in general hardware maintenance and operating system administration as related to servers housing databases and applications.

− Plays lead role in monitoring and checking Database engineered hardware and Cloud solutions (e.g. EXAchk Exadata Database Machine System, any cloud hosted databases)

− Performs Oracle Applications database administration, management, and architecture related functions. Ensures appropriate cloning and patching schedules are followed and leverages appropriate tools (e.g. Oracle E-Business AD utilities like adpatch, adcfgclone, adctrl, etc.)

− Analyzes data to help identify trends and patterns to diagnose problems and performs preventive maintenance. Coordinates with other budget centers in the performance of diagnostics, troubleshooting, and other problem-solving tasks to help maintain the process control network and help perform preventive maintenance.

− Coordinates, manages, and monitors contacts with providers of application-related products and services, consultants, and vendors.

− Evaluates and recommends professional development activities for programmers in regards to database technology.

− Works to ensure compatibility of databases and operating system functionality.

− Performs administrative functions such as documentation, report writing, creating procedures, writing proposals, and keeping detailed records of equipment, software, and configurations.

− Develops an understanding of new technologies in the computer industry and how they can be applied to the current and future needs of the Sewer District. Makes sound recommendations for implementing appropriate database technology advancements.

− Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

EDUCATION

Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE

Candidate must possess four (4) years of experience in the support, management of databases, troubleshooting sql (oracle) and no-sql databases. Experience must include two (2) years working with EBS implementation lifecycle.
