Private Equity Summer Analyst

Firm Description: Rainier Partners (www.rainierpartners.com) is a Seattle-based private equity firm that invests in a diverse set of industries including Business Services, Industrial Services, Financial Services, and Consumer Services. We target companies in the Lower Mid-Market primarily in the Western US. The principals of the firm each have over 15 years of experience in private equity. The firm's investing strategy focuses on generating returns primarily from value addition and an operationally active investing approach.

Timeframe: Summer 2023 Position (exact dates TBD)

Description: The Analyst role would include a wide variety of activities and will depend on the capabilities of the individual. Given we are a new private equity firm, the role will be dynamic reflecting the growth and opportunities of the firm at the time of the internship. Analyst activities in the past have included: 
  • helping to improve our sourcing process for new investment opportunities (including improving our CRM system that tracks sourcing relationships and deal opportunities) 
  • researching industries of interest and helping develop an investment thesis
  • helping perform diligence on potential investment companies, including analyzing the company’s historical financial results As the Analyst exhibits the ability to take on responsibility, the opportunities for projects will increase.

At the end of the internship, Analysts will understand the basics of the private equity industry as well as gain an understanding for how to evaluate companies and industries.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will be a sophomore, junior, senior or have graduated from a top college. She/he will be resourceful, a self-starter, entrepreneurial, driven, and a team player who is excited to work in a small and growing firm. Ideally candidates will have an interest in business and finance but will not be expected to come with prior experience in these areas. More importantly, candidates should be detail oriented and comfortable with numbers, and therefore will likely have taken some quantitative courses (such as economics, engineering, math, statistics, business, or physics, etc.). In addition, she/he will have the charisma, presence, maturity, and communication skills to establish credibility and inspire confidence both internally and externally to the firm. Finally, the successful candidate will have an exceptional work ethic and a background reflecting a high level of achievement. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is helpful.

Given Rainier's geographic focus, ideal candidates should either have ties to the Pacific Northwest / West Coast, and/or exhibit a long-term interest in living and working in Seattle.
