Research Analyst Principal - Health Statistics Unit

The Division of Public Health, has an opening for a Research Analyst, Principal, in our Health Statistics Unit at Central Office in Boise. This is a supervisory position and will direct the Division's Idaho Violent Death Reporting System (IdVDRS) program. The IdVDRS collects data from Idaho county coroners, law enforcement, and vital death records to inform stakeholders and the public to improve planning, implementation, and evaluation of violence prevention policies and programs. You will identify areas of research and make recommendations to management regarding these projects. You will design the research methods, establish procedures to assure the quality of the data, and approve the results of the projects. This position also involves developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders. The incumbent will manage the grant that funds the program which includes writing grant applications, grant reporting and budgeting.

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Research Analyst Principal making $29.75/hour to an estimated $42.16/hour.
This is a limited service position with an anticipated end date of August 31, 2027. Length of limited service appointments are determined by the availability of funds such as grants, alternative funding sources and/or timeframes such as pilot projects, alternative funding sources or program termination.

Example of Duties
- Use Tableau, SAS and SQL Server to obtain and organize data from various data systems
- Manage a grant including applications, reporting, and budgeting
- Supervision
- Maintain regular communication with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with coroners and law enforcement
- Identify appropriate areas of research based on needs assessment or direction from management
- Research and select information systems/sources to be used for study; confers with information technology staff and approves implementation
- Consult with officials of state and federal agencies and private entities to coordinate development and design of research projects
- Compile and disseminate research results in formats appropriate to various users and makes oral presentations of findings
- Review and update data ensuring output is consistent with study; analyze data and interpret trends and results of studies and develops conclusions
- Develop trainings related to data input, analysis, and application
- Collect annual and trend data for federal and state reporting on program enrollment and child outcomes
- Database management including ensuring data quality and accuracy of the database
- Attend trainings, conferences, and seminars to enrich data analysis techniques and remain updated on federal and state reporting requirements

- Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of modeling and trend analysis and simulation techniques
- Experience planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects and presenting the results
- Experience using and interpreting output of a statistical analysis software package

- Experience using a data extraction system such as Business Objects, Microsoft Access, SAS, Tableau, SQL Server, or similar program. Gained by at least six months of related experience or successful completion of college coursework.
