Summer 2023 Intern Program: Business, Environmental & Procurement Roles (Syracuse, NY)

Our Gridtern Program allows current college students to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will start with us on June 5th 2023 and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking, and opportunities to get involved in your community and have fun!
 
Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement. Applying to this opportunity confirms your interest in being considered for one or more of the below departments for summer 2023:
 
Customer Change and Communications (Syracuse, NY)
Our Customer Change and Communications team works with project managers to oversee change through improved project adoption and success. The team is the main communication point for our customer organization and helps to coordinate announcements that are sent out internally in the company. For the summer you will develop data dashboards using Power BI. You will also work with the team to automate current manual processes.
 
Customer Support Products - LMI (Low-Moderate Income) (Syracuse, NY)
Our Customer Support Products – Low-Moderate Income (LMI) team oversees the energy efficiency and other programs for National Grid’s electric and gas companies focusing on the Low-Moderate Income customer segment. For the summer, you will support efforts to design and develop the strategy, programs, and partnerships to optimize the team’s product offerings in our support of a clean, fair, and affordable energy future.

CNY Customer and Community Management (Syracuse, NY)
Our Customer and Community Management team is the local face of National Grid. The team provides direct connection to our customers and community to build relationships. The team works to enhance National Grid’s reputation by delivering a positive customer experience and meeting the evolving energy needs of our stakeholders. For the summer you will be responsible for various events and communications planning. You will work directly with account managers to support customer and emergency management.
 
Global Procurement Planning (Syracuse, NY)
Our Global Procurement Planning team works to analyze data that is maintained within our global systems. For our organization to achieve higher levels of performance, we support development and publishing of performance dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting. For the summer you will analyze data captured to provide insights on the organization's performance and areas for attention. You will also work with the team to develop performance management measures.
 
Investment & Resource Management (North Syracuse, NY)
Our Investment & Resource Management team is responsible for preparing for our annual Business Planning process. Through this process, the team collaborates with many departments across National Grid to evaluate potential electric distribution and transmission projects for subsequent fiscal years. The team is looking for a Gridtern with a strong analytical background to assist with this planning process. This role will work with such systems as Power Plan(t), FutureNow, Primavera P6, Storms, GIS and Computalpole.

NY Ops Support; Process, Governance, and Records (Syracuse, NY)
Our New York Operations Support: Process, Governance, and Records team is responsible for reviewing risks, assessing control activities, and providing consulting to internal departments on best practices. For the summer you will work alongside other team members as they perform day to day functions such as conducting data analysis and project management activities.
 
NY Ops Support- Process and Performance Improvement (Syracuse, NY)
Our Process and Performance Improvement team supports our New York Operations organization with the goal to increase efficiency, deliver value, and drive change. The team aims to engrain a mindset of modernization and constant improvement throughout the organization. For the summer you will work alongside other team members to document current state processes and analyze for waste and improvement opportunities.
 
NY Performance and Reporting (Syracuse, NY)
Our NY Performance and Reporting team works with our New York leadership team to manage and report on the overall business performance. The team also works to identify any performance issues and helps to coordinate resolution. For the summer you will work with the team to identify and implement process improvements for our metrics database.

Project Development (Syracuse, NY)
Our Project Development Team oversees our Electric Complex Capital Projects to ensure they are cost efficient and fit for the purpose manner of improving long term project readiness, requirements, costs, and timescales. For the summer you will assist your team members to ensure the optimization of design and development with setting a clear cost and time range to the beginning of these complex capital project lifecycles.
 
Resource Coordination & Scheduling (Syracuse, NY)
Our Resource Coordination & Scheduling team manages and coordinates multiple field location work plans and activities to ensure regulatory, budget, work performance, productivities’, and internal customer expectations are met. For the summer you will coordinate external and internal resources to achieve the company’s work plan and deliver against agreed programs of work. You will also monitor and report monthly resource predictions to the Resource Planning team so the team can track themes, trends, and performance.
 
Revenue Assurance (Syracuse, NY)
The Revenue Assurance team strives to identify and resolve all lost and unaccounted revenue through the enhancement of processes and controls. The team utilizes the Revenue Assurance life cycle to minimize leakage with a focus on safety and reliability across our organizational footprint. For the summer you will conduct dashboard reporting for current projects using such applications as Power BI and SQL. You will also work on such projects as our Stopped Meter Project, which is looking to identify and cure over 10,000 gas meters that are currently not reflecting correct readings. Through this project you will analyze data and issue field orders to have the gas meter investigated.

US Business Services (Syracuse, NY)
Our US Business Services team works with different external and internal stakeholders to ensure core transactional processes are completed with accuracy. The team is continuously seeking ways to be more efficient at what they do in service to our company’s different departments. For the summer you will work with the team to complete service-level agreement (SLA) reporting, which ensures the level of service being provided is being measured and achieved. You will assist with implementing best practices and standardization across departments.
 
Vegetation and Reliability Analytics (Syracuse, NY)
Our Vegetation and Reliability Analytics team is responsible for assisting the generation and performance of our yearly vegetation management work plans. For the summer you will support performing reliability impact analytics on our vegetation management practices, review vegetation management’s workplan, and help look for reliability performance trends within National Grid’s electric business.


What You’ll Need

  • Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
  • Majoring in Business, Operations Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$17.00 - $21.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)
$24.00 - $28.00 an hour (Graduate Student)
 
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year.
