2023 Risk Data Science Summer Internship
The Role
We are seeking a highly qualified Risk Data Science Summer Intern to join our Risk team. This team is responsible for helping portfolio managers use real world data as a part of their investment process and helping managers think about different dimensions of risk.
What you’ll do
As a Risk Data Science Summer Intern, you’ll spend ten weeks with the Schonfeld Risk team, focusing on a data science research project related to the use of real-world data in the investment process. The research project will be empirical in nature and will involve the use of quantitative techniques and market intuition. The Risk Data Science Intern will work alongside data scientists and engineers to ingest new data sources, develop a deep understanding of specific datasets, and use the data to better understand the companies and economies we invest in.
You will be assigned both a manager and mentor, participate in organized team-building events, lunch and learns, social activities, and network with senior management throughout the summer. You will be assigned a summer-long project that will be directly related to the work of the team you are assigned to, which you will present on at the completion of the program. Upon completion of the internship, you may be extended a full-time offer of employment.
What you’ll bring
What you need:
- A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a quantitative or technical field such as computer science, electrical engineering, math, physics, or statistics (ideally with one year left in your academic program)
- Strong programming skills in a Linux env, especially in Python
- Excellent organizational, communication and listening skills
- A keen, analytical eye with a high regard for attention to detail
- A passion for financial markets and data
We’d love if you had:
- Specialization or course work in Data Science
- Knowledge of statistical packages
- Knowledge of Spark and / or SQL
- Experience with messy, real-world data
Our Internship
The Schonfeld summer internship provides students with a unique opportunity to experience Schonfeld, our work, our people, and our culture. Interns will typically join a small team and will spend 10 weeks at Schonfeld from June - August.
Each summer intern will work on a tailored project that will provide them with real world experience. We provide all interns with a dedicated mentor and manager to help them navigate the summer successfully. Interns will also participate in our learning program, the Sapphire: Summer Session, which aims to provide tangible skills training and education on various functions across the firm and in the workplace. Along with the hands-on guidance and support from managers and mentors, interns will participate in weekly networking events, engage with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alliance, attend panel discussions, and have many opportunities to get to know Schonfeld’s core values in practice.
