Data Science Co-op

We're searching for a coop who wants to learn the cybersecurity business and use typical data science tools to do so.
The position involves analyzing the cybersecurity of a number of different industries or groups of companies and reporting on findings. This means assessing the vulnerability of companies in different dimensions (e.g. patching cadence, data breaches, ransomware attacks etc.). You may also be involved in other projects where we apply data science techniques to analyze cybersecurity data.
You'll do all this using SecurityScorecard's big data set of vulnerabilities and issues.
The technologies you'll use will include:
  • PySpark
  • Python
  • SQL
  • Databricks
  • Pandas
  • Bokeh/Altair etc.
  • AWS
We require strong experience with Python and some knowledge of SQL. A good grasp of statistics would be helpful as would some understanding of plotting packages like Bokeh or Altair.
You'll be working as a full member of the Data Science team. We have substantial experience in cybersecurity and data science. You will be exposed to all aspects of the business.
The position is fully remote. The company has fully embraced remote working. SecurityScorecard is a very well funded high-growth pre-IPO company. We're several hundred people.

About SecurityScorecard
Funded by world-class investors including Silver Lake Waterman, Moody’s, Sequoia Capital, GV, Riverwood Capital, and others with over $290 million in funding, SecurityScorecard is the global leader in cybersecurity ratings and the only service with over 12M+ companies continuously rated. Founded in 2013 by security and risk experts Dr. Aleksandr Yampolskiy and Sam Kassoumeh, SecurityScorecard’s patented rating technology is used by over 30,000 organizations for enterprise risk management, third-party risk management, board reporting, due diligence, and cyber insurance underwriting. This is done by measuring your and your vendors' cyber-health by assigning a security rating of "A" through "F" based on outside-in, non-intrusive data. SecurityScorecard continues to make the world a safer place by transforming the way companies understand, improve and communicate cybersecurity risk to their boards, employees, and vendors.

SecurityScorecard is a remote first company headquartered in NYC with over 500 employees globally. Our culture has helped us be recognized by Inc Magazine as a "Best Workplace," "Best Places to Work in NYC" by Crain's NY, and one of the 10 hottest SaaS startups in NY for two years in a row.

Data Science @SecurityScorecard
We are a small group of collaborative and innovative data scientists from various backgrounds including: physics, engineering, and finance who work closely together using statistics and machine learning techniques to help build new features and create new products for SecurityScorecard. We work cross functionally with other departments such as marketing, engineering, and product. Examples of our work include: the scoring algorithm, using NLP to automatically answer questionnaires, and predicting what companies are most likely to be infected with ransomware. Although we are a diverse group of people, we share the same passion for innovative thinking and coming up with creative solutions to improve the world’s cybersecurity.
