Postdoctoral Researcher

The Department of Physics at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of cosmic microwave background experiment, with extensive experience in instrumentation and data analysis. This position will be for two years, with the possibility of an extension for a third year, depending upon performance and availability of funding. This is a full-time, 100% appointment.

This position will be in Dr. Brian Keating’s group in the Physics Department of UC San Diego. The group focuses on observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The research in this position will be focused on developing the Small Aperture Telescopes (SATs) of the Simons Observatory where one of the SATs is being built at San Diego/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The SATs have compact refractive optics with a 42 cm diameter aperture. The 100 mK focal planes are instrumented with Horn- or Planar-Antenna-Coupled, dichroic, Transition-Edge Sensor (TES) bolometer arrays. The TESes are readout using a microwave MUX system.
