Entry-Level UX/UI Designer

About the role:
As a UX/UI Designer, you will collaborate with other designers, researchers, developers, product owners, and business partners to craft meaningful experiences for our customers through thoughtful design. The ideal candidate will have interaction and visual design skills, an understanding of user-centered design, and a passion for designing digital products. This role embodies a passionate, yet pragmatic design leaders that can analyze customer needs and behaviors, identify problem solving opportunities, and successfully transform requirements into intuitive and elegant user experiences.

This position is located in Austin, Texas or Warren, Michigan.

Responsibilities:
  • Design user-focused wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, interaction models, specifications, style guides and prototypes that elegantly illustrate a deep understanding of the user’s needs
  • Build positive relationships with IT and business partners to ensure the user is well represented in the product development cycle
  • Develop personas, user workflows / story boards and logical information architecture
  • Ensure compliance with all standards of usability, design best practices and accessibility
  • Participate in workshops for journey mapping, brainstorming, vision sessions, and requirements gathering
  • Research design trends and forecast future experiences
  • Cultivate collaboration among teammates and evangelize the need for brand and application consistency

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in one of the following areas: Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s graduation date must be between January 2021 and August 2023
  • 1+ years of experience creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications
  • Open to input, knows how give and receive criticism, and how and when to defend design decisions
  • Knowledge of common design tools like Axure, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Sketch, XD and Figma
  • Attention to detail and passionate problem solver with critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of i18n, localization best practices and WCAG Level AA accessibility requirement standards
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating a history of crafting user-centered designs that illustrate the ability to turn requirements into creative solutions

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Prototyping experience (software and/or hardware development experience a plus)
  • Experience with usability testing
  • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals

Work Location: This role offers the following work appropriately strategies:
  • Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
  • Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
