Compensation: 51,000 - 56,000 (depending on experience)
The Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) department at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks an entry level Business/Systems Analyst to support application development, systems integration, data analytics, and other technology and organizational efforts. The individual within this position will take initiative, ensure accountability and follow-through, and will successfully serve as a liaison between clients, technical staff, and leadership. Ideal candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a passion for the University’s mission of learning, research, and outreach.
This is a 100%, 12 month Civil Service position, with flexible work hours and location. Typical work hours are 8:00 - 4:30 Monday through Friday. This position is based in Duluth, MN.

Job Responsibilities
Business/Systems Analysis
- Works in conjunction with IT development and business units.
- Develops and implements new systems as well as enhancements of current systems.
- Identifies and analyzes business needs, gathers requirements, and defines the goals and scope of the work.
- Evaluates evolving business requirements and makes recommendations for appropriate systems alternatives and enhancements to current systems.
- Evaluates new applications and identifies systems requirements.
- Prepares communications and makes presentations on system enhancements and alternatives.
- Creates detailed test cases and documents all programming and systems changes.
Data Reporting
- Compiles, validates, analyzes, interprets, and translates data.
- Gains understanding of business operations, processes, and planning.
- Analyzes business operations and recommends solutions in alignment with business goals.
- Creates reports, charts, graphs and presentations and recommends new strategies to improve business operations.
General Support
- Provides support for enterprise applications, including tools used for workflows, mass communications, surveys, and elections.
- Provides general technical support and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience defining business and system requirements for applications
- Experience in SQL development, data analysis, and/or data visualizations
- Experience writing test cases and evaluating software applications
- Ability to work with and build consensus with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
