Research Analyst, Principal - Child Welfare Research Analyst

Are you an experienced Research Analyst who wants to work for an organization that does amazing work to promote the protection of the health and safety of Idahoans? Are you interested in research, partnering with county coroners, law enforcement, and other agencies? If this sounds like a good fit to you, we are seeking applicants for a part-time, temporary (up to 19 hours a week) Research Analyst, Principal in our Child Welfare Policy Unit to assist in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of findings and research related to child fatalities and near fatalities. This position is located at the department's administrative office in downtown Boise.
 
General Information:
  • The Child Welfare Research Analyst will support the Child Fatality Review Team with their reviews, logistics, reporting and requires:

  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly to meet deadlines
  • Data analysis background with strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, data, records collection and reporting
  • This position involves developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency.

Example of Duties
  • Uses Microsoft Excel to obtain and organize data from various data systems 
  • Gathers data and record from child welfare, corners, law enforcement, medical providers and other identified agencies related to child fatalities and near fatality reviews
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with coroners, law enforcement, medical providers and other agency programs
  • Writes summary case synopsis for each case 
  • Analyzes data, interprets trends, and results of the findings, and develops conclusions in coordination with Child Fatality Review Team
  • Creates infographic, reports and dashboards to provide information to the public and assist staff and/or review team in making timely, data-driven recommendations 
  • Completes all data entry and reporting for National Center for Child Death Review
  • Responds to ad hoc data and survey requests and provides responses in an accurate, concise, and timely way
  • Compiles and disseminates findings in formats appropriate to various users and makes oral presentations of findings
  • Ensures that the data compiled and entered for Federal, State, and County inquiries and reports is collected and presented in an accurate, accessible, and timely manner 
  • Drafts and conducts surveys for internal and external use 
  • Identifies appropriate areas of potential areas of research or training based on needs assessment or direction from management and develops trainings related to data input, analysis, and application 
  • Attends fatality reviews, trainings, conferences, and seminars to enrich data analysis techniques and remain updated on federal and state reporting requirements related to child fatality and near fatality reviews

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of modeling and trend analysis and simulation techniques.
  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects and presenting the results.
  • Experience using and interpreting output of a statistical analysis software package.
