Service Operations Analyst / Information Technology Professional

Position Summary

The MSU IT Data Center Operations team is responsible for the 24/7/365 monitoring of MSU’s Enterprise hardware, applications, and processing as well as scheduling Enterprise batch processing. As a member of the Data Center Operations team, the Service Operations Analyst will independently monitor and identify performance issues using MSU’s IT scheduling software and multiple monitoring tools and be responsible for monitoring MSU IT data center servers, network and applications using monitoring tools to analyze errors, failures, network malfunctions, data center security, applications, and environmental disruptions. The Service Operations Analyst will be responsible for independently altering complex job streams using scheduling software, as well as analyzing batch processing abends and following escalation procedures and resolution processes. This role requires strong analytical skills to diagnose problems, devise viable solutions and follow escalation processes for resolution. Excellent communication skills are also needed for collaboration with multiple MSU customers and teams to identify monitoring requirements and reporting metrics.
This position will have a "Home shift" as the 3rd shift, but may also work weekends and variable hours including holidays. Duties associated with this position involve working on a video display terminal 95 percent of the time.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associate’s Degree; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a Bachelor’s Degree; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; experience in enterprise system monitoring and Job Scheduling (Atomic) duties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritize in complex, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems exercising excellent judgment
  • The ability to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and written
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
  • UC4 Certification, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network +
  • 1-2 years year experience in System Software support, Network experience and enterprise monitoring.
  • Basic knowledge of VMware, SQL. Working knowledge of Windows/Linux operating system.

Work Hours

Please see attachment. Third Shift, starting out on Monday – Friday and will be expected to work some University Holidays. They would work 8 hours shifts with a half hour lunch break, working 23:00 – 07:30 each day.
