GIS Analyst

General Duty Statement
Performs advanced work in the analysis, assessment, and improvement of a department wide Geographic Information System (GIS) and related programs. Creates and maintains spatial and attribute data, facilitates data capture, and provides analysis, map design, production, and spatial data modeling. Builds GIS applications and provides guidance to less experienced staff and users. Acts as a resource to users and GIS unit staff regarding the GIS system, applications, enhancements and updates. Assists with the development of ideas, tools, and methods to promote GIS systems applications. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Information about this position:
The current vacancy is in the Department of Public Works, Technical Services section. Public Works is a unique business with its own unique skills and requirements the successful candidate will need to learn quickly. Spatial integration with Public Works enterprise systems is a must, and the successful candidate will need to understand Public Works business process issues in order to be successful. Public Works GIS and related technologies are highly specialized, and the GIS data is deeply embedded within them. The successful candidate will need to understand, support, maintain and enhance GIS related technology used to support the business. Assigned duties will include:
 
  • Geo-Dataset Archiving
  • GIS product design, data management, and data analysis
  • Data automation
  • CADD web service integration and data formatting
  • Oracle time and materials application support
  • Documentation and training
  • Testing, applying, integrating and optimizing new technologies into business processes

The eligible list created from this assessment will also be used to fill GIS Analyst positions as they become available in various departments within the City.

Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Geography, Cartography or a directly related field, AND two years of progressively responsible experience developing geographic information systems. Experience must include work in the majority of the following areas: analysis, assessment, design, documentation, spatial data modeling, and administration of geographic information applications, processes, and products.

OR

Associate's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Geography, Cartography or a directly related field, AND four years of progressively responsible experience developing geographic information systems. Experience must include work in the majority of the following areas: analysis, assessment, design, documentation, spatial data modeling, and administration of geographic information applications, processes, and products.

Selection Process Information

Assessment: Qualifications Rating
 
The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application, answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire, and your resume. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and any attachments. You must submit your completed application, supplemental questionnaire and any attachments by the application deadline.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list. 

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method. 

Condition of Employment: This position may require a drug test, and a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment.
