Teaching Assistants, Mathematics, Academy of Math and Programming (AMP)

About the Position
We are looking for enthusiastic teaching assistants, a strong background in mathematical problem solving, for our Academy of Math and Programming (AMP) in New York City.

This is a temporary, six-week-long summer role, which includes one week of training. Dates of the program are still being determined, but it will likely take place from early July through early August.

AMP is a program for recent high school graduates of diverse backgrounds who have experienced barriers to access and opportunity within advanced STEM education. It offers students a rigorous and rewarding curriculum that focuses on topics near and dear to Jane Street, including mathematics, computer programming, data analysis, and game theory.

You’ll work alongside a director and math instructors to administer challenging and interactive courses and activities — including classes, problem-solving, and game playing — and supervise students as they spend their summer learning.

This will include:
  • Helping to deliver the probability and statistics curriculum
  • Playing strategic games (card games, board games, etc.) with students
  • Residing with the students in the dorms for the duration of the program
  • Leading academic and social activities during evenings and select weekends

Jane Street deeply values the quality of our educational programming, and we compensate our high-caliber instructors accordingly. Travel, housing, and meals will be provided.

About You
  • An undergraduate or graduate student
  • Has experience with or interest in working with students or in an academic environment, for example, summer camps, part-time jobs, tutoring, mentoring (This list is not exhaustive and we encourage you to apply if you do not have direct experience.)
  • Strong STEM-content knowledge, especially within mathematics
  • Enjoyment of strategic, logic, and mathematical game-playing is preferred
  • Fluency in English required

Base salary is $8,000 - $15,000.
