Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist III

RES
RES is looking for a Wildlife Biologist/Ecologist with 7+ years of relevant work experience for our Sacramento, CA office.
 
The mission: you will be providing environmental support to a team of environmental restoration and mitigation professionals.

What your day-to-day might look like?

You will be planning, performing, and supervising field assessments, including:
  • Special status amphibian and reptile surveys;
  • Vernal pool and stream invertebrate surveys;
  • Raptor and avian nesting surveys;
  • Night time mammal surveys;
  • wetland & vernal pool mitigation monitoring;
  • feasibility assessments of potential restoration projects;
  • endangered species and habitat surveys; and other environmental site assessments.
 
Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. Occasionally, some of our projects require extensive travel with overnight stays.
 
You will be performing data analysis and processing, and technical writing based on your fieldwork. Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount! You will be responsible for preparing and supporting development of reports, figures, permit application packages, bank documentation and elements of regulatory documents for the establishment of new mitigation projects

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Biology or related field (such as but not limited to wildlife biology, ecology environmental studies or similar field).
  • Experience and knowledge of
  • State and Federal Endangered Species Act
  • California Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements
  • CEQA regulations in California
  • Clean Water Act
  • 4+ years working directly in California or Oregon wildlife/terrestrial habitats.
  • Proficient in special status wildlife identification, and their habitats, in California.
  • Experience with Trimble GPS units.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS.
  • Ability to read and interpret environmental maps.

 Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. in ecological related field
  • Stream and wetland restoration design and construction experience
  • Section 10(a)(1)(A) recovery permit for California Tiger Salamander, California Red-legged Frog, and/or vernal pool branchiopods or ability to meet minimum qualifications and apply for recovery permit within 6 months of hiring.
