Ecologist Technical Lead

RES
RES is accepting applications for a Senior Ecologist with 7+ years of experience for our Nashville, TN office.
 
The mission: Support our clients and operations teams with knowledgeable ecological consulting and high-quality project delivery across a variety of ecosystem restoration projects in the Southeast.

What your day-to-day might look like?

You will be planning, performing, and supervising field work efforts, including
  • Feasiblity assessments of potential restoration projects
  • Mitigation monitoring
  • Wetland delineations/stream determinations
  • Threatened/Endangered species and habitat surveys
  • Biological (macroinvertebrate, fish, and vegetation) surveys
  • Geomorphological surveys
  • Invasive species management
  • Site maintenance
  • Vegetation planting establishment
 
You will be mentoring additional ecologists and leading various restoration projects, so having previous leadership capabilities and project management experience is valued.
 
You will also be performing and overseeing data entry, analysis, and processing, as well as technical writing based on your field efforts. Superior writing, communication, computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount! You will be responsible for preparing reports, figures, technical report documentation and elements of regulatory documents for the establishment and maintenance of mitigation projects.
 
Please be advised that we perform field tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. Occasionally, some of our projects require extensive travel with overnight stays.

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
  • MA/MS in an environmental science field such as, but not limited to, ecology, forestry, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, hydrology, etc.
  • Thorough interdisciplinary understanding of ecosystem restoration projects
  • Extensive experience performing wetland delineations/stream determinations and associated assessments (i.e. Hydrogemorphic Method, Tennesee Rapid Assessment Method, Stream Quantification Tool, Hydrologic Determination, etc).
  • Experience in geomorphology data collection and processing
  • Strong working knowledge of plant identification and vegetation requirements in the southeast
  • Detailed understanding of various state and federal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and methodologies related to ecological, biological, and physicochemical protocols
  • Experience with benthic macroinvertebrate and fish surveys
  • Invasive species management
  • Certifications such as CERP, PWS, TN-QHP, or similar
  • Understanding of Section 401/404 regulations and various permitting processes
  • Experience working with federal and state resource and regulatory agency personnel
  • Familiarity with Trimble GPS units, ArcGIS, and/or other ESRI data collection software
  • Experience with data processing softwares such as RiverMorph, Power BI, Stream Quantification Tool (SQT), JMP, R Data Analysis, etc

  • MS in an applicable environmental science field
  • Experience leading multiple field teams and planning projects
  • Experience in numerous data collection and analysis methodologies
  • Established Subject Matter Expert (SME) related to forestry, fisheries, botany, wetland science, hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, and/or soils
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Issued U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Section 10(a)(1)(A) Recovery Permit for threatened/endangered species in the southeast
  • Issued state collection permits for threatened/endangered species
  • Ability to operate a UTV and Tractor, with experience towing trailers
