4533 - Environmental Health Technician

This position is located in the Health Department.

Salary Grade: 34

An Environmental Health Technician performs work by conducting vector investigations, inspection, surveillance, intervention, and sampling functions. During the active mosquito season, this includes setting and collecting mosquito traps, speciating mosquitos, and testing them in the lab for West Nile Virus. Mosquito surveillance is tracked through GIS maps. Techs also perform routine and complaint inspections at regulated facilities, including mobile home parks, public and semi-public pools, schools, and lodging facilities.

Preference given to current Pima County employees. 

(1) Six semester hours of course work with a grade of "C" or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale), from an accredited college or university in either the natural or physical sciences, environmental health, public health, health education, math (college algebra or higher), computer science, nutritional or food sciences, or other closely related field as determined by the appointing authority at the time of recruitment.
OR:
(2) Three months of field or investigative work experience directly related to public health sanitation, environmental health, food sanitation, or pest control.

Preferred Qualifications (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.): 
 
  1. An associates degree or higher.
  2. Environmental health work or intern experience.
  3. Bilingual (English and Spanish, Chinese or other languages).
  4. Arizona Structural Pest Control License.
  5. A minimum of six (6) months experience with Hedgehog Software or other environmental health software.

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred QualificationsThe hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
