Environmental Engineering Technician 1 (Seasonal)

This is a full-time hourly position currently funded through 3/31/23, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Availability of funding and program need with determine the actual end date of the position. Telecommuting, up to a maximum of 50%, may be available. Will be discussed at interview.

Duties:
The Environmental Engineering Technician 1 (Seasonal) will support the Waste Transport and State Assistance Section. The incumbent will be responsible for application review and contract administration for the Part 369 Municipal Waste Reduction and Recycling (MWRR) grant program, including capital projects; education, promotion; planning, and coordination projects (MWRC); municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection and disposal projects; target priority area projects; and other grant programs as requested. The incumbent will be required to operate specialized computer programs, such as the Solid Waste Information Management System (SWIMS), the NYS Grants Gateway, and DEC’s Financial Management Information System (FMIS). The incumbent must possess the ability to review large documents. Financial calculations and tracking of budgets and contract expenses, is essential. In addition to the primary duties, the incumbent will also, from time to time, be called upon to support the other duties of the Waste Transport and State Assistance Section, including, but not limited to freedom of information responses, internal controls, environmental monitoring program, work planning and waste transporters.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
1. four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter; OR
2. graduation from high school (or possession of a high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized educational authority or a USAF! GED diploma - high school level) AND one year of the experience described in option 1 above; OR
3. graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction, technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry; OR
4. eighteen college semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering; such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science; environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences. YOU MUST SUBMIT A LIST OF QUALIFYING COURSES WITH YOUR APPLICATION. Include the course title, number of semester credit hours per course, name of college or university, and date (or expected date) of completion. Applications submitted without a list of relevant courses will be disapproved.
