City of Hastings, NE - City Planner

The City of Hastings, Nebraska (2020 pop. 25,152) is seeking a City Planner. Hastings is a vibrant city that blends progressive thinking with a respect for strong community values. Located near the geographic center of the U.S., Hastings provides an excellent location for business and industry.

Under the direction of the Development Services Director, the City Planner reviews development projects for compliance with municipal land codes, standards, and design guidelines; answers general citizen inquiries; and acts as the primary liaison to the Planning Commission. The City Planner will provide calculations, maps, records and other data pertaining to planning, zoning and development to the Commission and the agencies within the Commission’s jurisdiction; plan coordinate, and lead small scale planning projects, public participation and research projects. The City Planner will guide and assist with various types of planning projects, such as comprehensive planning and implementation, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) compliance, transportation projects, and adding or updating zoning and ordinance amendments for the City of Hastings. 

The City is offering a highly competitive salary range for the City Planner of $64,708 - $91,312 and is negotiable dependent upon the hired candidate’s qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is offered.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, or a closely related field with a minimum of five (5) years of municipal experience, which includes a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential functions of the job. A Master’s degree and / or AICP certification is desired, but not required. The hired candidate should possess a valid driver’s license in the state of Nebraska. EOE.
