HJF is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist to elevate and expand the digital presence of the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) in Bethesda, Maryland. CNRM is a U.S. federal military traumatic brain injury research center that conducts clinical and translational studies to improve the lives of service members with TBIs.

The Digital Communications Specialist is a storyteller who’s passionate about immersing themselves in CNRM’s brand. Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Digital Communications Specialist will help develop a robust digital communication strategy with quantifiable goals and milestones. The Digital Communications Specialist will implement this strategy by planning, creating, and managing written copy and content for CNRM’s social media channels, websites, and multimedia campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Social Media Management: Conducts daily social media management on CNRM’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube channels. Plans, produces and publishes written copy and content (organic & paid) that drives conversations and elicits brand affinity. Promptly responds to audience comments and direct messages. Proactively engages with audience and participates in relevant conversations.
  • Social Listening: Engages in social listening across all social media platforms to proactively identify potential threats and/or relevant activities for CNRM to engage in. Stays current and reports on emerging social media trends, best practices, and platform updates to optimize CNRM’s relevancy.
  • Performance Monitoring: Utilizes tools and technologies to closely monitor and report metrics from CNRM’s digital assets (e.g., social media, websites, and multimedia campaigns). Analyzes data to identify and articulate trends. Makes data-driven recommendations to improve engagement, deepen relationships, and enhance user experience.
  • Websites: Creates, curates, and manages content on CNRM’s websites. Works with webmasters to troubleshoot issues, reorganize pages, and reconfigure designs, etc.
  • Multimedia Campaigns: Works with Communication Manager and cross-functional teams to plan, create, and publish content (written copy and graphics) for multimedia campaigns and monthly newsletters.
 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of multiple social media platforms and demonstrated social media management experience.
  • Proficiency with social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or similar software.
  • Solid basic photography and video editing skills (familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other graphic design platforms).
  • Must have outstanding writing skills.
  • Keen ability to convey complex ideas and scientific information into language appropriate for a lay audience.
  • Strong interpersonal, research and interview skills and storytelling skills.
  • Must have sharp editorial, proofreading and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask, coordinate tasks, meet project deadlines and prioritize multiple request.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems.  
  • Experience with content management systems such as Drupal.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 compliance standards is preferred but not required.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or similar required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required
